Coastal salt air
Towns near the water are hard on springs, cables and hinges. Rust shows up years earlier than it does inland, and a rusted spring fails without much warning.
Older housing stock
Tight headroom in older detached garages limits which track and opener configurations will physically fit. It's worth measuring before ordering anything.
Cold winters
Steel contracts, grease thickens, and openers work harder in January than they do in July. Force settings that were fine in the fall can start reversing doors mid-winter.
